The bell is an integral part of the Indian puja. It is used e.g. during the performance 'aarti "(ritual action with a flame). The sounds of the bell help to drown out ominous or disturbing noises and comments which may be heard in the background and which could disturb concentration and inner peace.
A bell is also often used to start or finish a meditation. The bell is also a sign for God, which says: We are here, please look at us.
